The video of Tyre Nichols’ killing is terrible and crushingly painful. I pray for his family, the Memphis community, and for everyone grieving this preventable death.

We have so much work to do, and I’ll keep working for accountability, and the change and reform we need, so this legacy of violence finally ends in our country.

We must root out the culture of racism and abuse of power that allows the Black community and so many other marginalized communities to be killed, abused, and taunted by law enforcement over and over again.

We must demand justice right now for victims of police violence. Tyre Nichols’ life mattered. Black Lives Matter.

We must face up to and address the disparities in opportunity that disproportionately hurt communities of color, from health care, to the education gap, to climate change, to the mass incarceration crisis. And we must act now.
