It shouldn’t be a secret that the U.S. military and its network of weapons contractors are far and away the single largest user of fossil fuels on earth, but it is.

Now, a new development in the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) has emerged that could fundamentally change how our nation addresses the environmental impact of the military-industrial complex.

A proposed amendment to the FAR would require defense contractors to disclose their greenhouse gas emissions and the financial risks of climate change.

This would provide valuable insight into the carbon footprint of our military operations while laying out a real plan for emissions reductions and all of it would be available for public review too.

We can't afford to wait any longer. Please, take a moment to sign and submit our prepared comment in support of the proposed rule now.

Without any changes, emissions will be still largely hidden from public view, preventing any accountability for weapons contractors’ impact on the environment.

By requiring these contractors to disclose their emissions, we can ensure that they do their part to reduce their carbon footprint and protect our planet.

This rule will set clear targets and take meaningful action toward a more sustainable and responsible military.

These changes will provide a deeper view of where the Department of Defense uses the most fossil fuels, and what areas they can transition to renewable energy.
