Friend, every day at NILC, we are fighting for a country where everyone has the freedom to thrive. We’ve been heads down identifying our top priorities and opportunities to push the Biden administration and Congress in 2023 — and there are many.
Our list is long and ambitious, but it’s not impossible. Our team is committed to achieving progress on all policy fronts this year — from restoring access to asylum to improving economic justice and everything in between. And we are going to need you in the fight alongside us.
Here is a snapshot of our top policy priorities in 2023:
- Congress must pass a pathway to citizenship. We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again until it’s done — we need a pathway to citizenship for immigrant youth and DACA recipients who have been living in limbo for far too long.
- President Biden must fulfill his campaign promise to restore access to asylum at the southern border. That means ending Title 42 expulsions, not expanding them, and reopening asylum processing at ports of entry.
- It is crucial that the Biden administration address the ongoing harms of Trump’s Muslim and African Bans. Despite the court ruling that we and our partners won in August 2022, the administration has yet to follow through. We will continue to invest our legal power into ensuring that they do right by the many people who remain separated from their loved ones as a consequence of these discriminatory bans.
- Last year, DHS finalized a new public charge rule, but many immigrants and mixed-status families are still afraid to seek health and basic needs programs needed to thrive. The Biden administration must educate immigrant communities about the final public charge rule so they can safely access programs for which they are eligible.
- Congress must pass the LIFT the BAR and HEAL for Immigrant Families Acts to allow immigrants access to the public health coverage programs their tax dollars support.
We are working day in and day out to make progress on each of our priority issues this year. But we can’t do it without you. Will you make a donation to help us keep pushing for a pathway to citizenship, urging the Biden administration to restore asylum, supporting the health and wellbeing of immigrants and their loved ones (and so much more) in 2023?
Friend, your support makes a real difference in what we can achieve. We are grateful for your partnership, and we look forward to working with you to make headway toward defending and advancing immigrants’ rights in 2023 and beyond.
Thank you,
