Avian influenza guidance for waterfowl hunters

Waterfowl hunting season is in full swing and the Wyoming Game and Fish Department would like to remind hunters to take precautions to minimize their risk of contracting highly pathogenic avian influenza.?*Game and Fish has recently observed large waterfowl die-offs due to HPAI in the Cheyenne and Wheatland areas. Shed antler and horn hunting season closed for western, southern Wyoming
Shed antler, horn closures

Many sections of public lands in western and southern Wyoming are now closed for shed antler and horn hunting. The annual closure for sections of public land, state land and Wyoming Game and Fish Commission wildlife habitat management areas in Wyoming became effective at midnight on Jan. 1. *The shed collection closure is meant to protect wintering big game. The Wyoming Game and Fish Department would like to remind the public that recovering roadkill requires authorization. *To collect roadkill, people will need approval from Game and Fish prior to collection through electronic authorization through the Wyoming 511 app or the Game and Fish desktop application. Statewide, 5-year mule deer project underway

Over 200 mule deer will be captured in the Upper Shoshone region of Northwest Wyoming this month as part of the statewide Mule Deer Monitoring Project. The five year, $5.3 million dollar project will collect more information on mule deer than ever before. *The project will examine six areas critical for mule deer management: abundance, composition, data management, survival, herd health and harvest management.
