Latest government figures show that 214,256 unborn children were killed in England and Wales by abortion in 2021.
That’s a shocking increase of 3,396 precious lives lost compared to the previous year.
- It’s the highest annual number ever recorded since the 1967 Abortion Act.
- In Scotland, abortion killed another 13,758 unborn babies.
Right at the beginning of SPUC’s battle against abortion – back in the mid 1960s – we warned that opening the abortion floodgates would lead to calls for euthanasia.
It’s logical.
When abortion is allowed, assisted suicide always follows – which means the legalised killing of the elderly, incapacitated, terminally-ill and disabled.
Just like unborn children, these are deemed by some as lives of little or no worth.
Like abortion laws, the huge problem with legal euthanasia or assisted suicide – aside from the fact that it is KILLING AN INNOCENT PERSON – is that it leads to a slippery slope.
Some people say that a “slippery slope” argument is weak. But we can now see that what is happening in Canada is exactly what we predicted.
Over 10,000 people were killed by assisted suicide in Canada in 2021.
“MAID”, or so-called “medical assistance in dying,” was only introduced in Canada in 2016. Within the space of just five years the number of Canadians killed soared.
- 1,018 people were killed in MAID’s first year
- 31,664 people have been killed since 2016 (as of 31 December 2021)
- A third of these deaths occurred in 2021 alone.
The state of Canada is so horrific that The Lancet, the renowned medical journal, commented on the “worryingly high number” of assisted suicides there.
Over 30,000 people have been killed by assisted suicide in Canada already – an utter catastrophe that we cannot allow to happen in the UK.
But this is not some abstract problem.
It could happen to YOU.

Right now, the agents of the Empire of Death are pursuing their time-tested strategy of changing the law in smaller jurisdictions like Jersey and the Isle of Man, in order to put pressure on Westminster.
MSP Liam McArthur’s Assisted Suicide Bill for Scotland will soon be subject to a vote following a consultation. This Bill is extremely dangerous.
That is why we must TAKE ACTION now to oppose this insidious legislation – before we find ourselves and our loved ones in Canada’s hideous situation.

A warning to the UK
Stories coming out of Canada in recent years have exposed assisted suicide for what it really is: a death warrant for the vulnerable.
Who are these vulnerable persons? Here are just a few real-life examples:
- A Canadian ex-soldier suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and injuries suffered during active service was offered assisted suicide when he consulted a hotline for struggling veterans
- A disabled Canadian woman, aged 31, living in “abject poverty” was approved for assisted suicide because she couldn’t find affordable accommodation – the decision was approved by two Canadian doctors
- A Canadian quadriplegic denied adequate home care provision applied for assisted suicide because he felt abandoned by his country’s health services
- A chronically ill Canadian woman, aged 37, unable to access quality care concluded that “death care” was her only option, despite wanting to live.
Rather than acting to make life easier and treating the patient, Canada has chosen to cure the disease by killing the patient.
This is a shocking dereliction of duty.
The normalisation of suicide
10,064 people killed by assisted suicide is the equivalent of one Boeing 747, full of passengers, crashing with no survivors every two weeks in Canada alone.
In any other circumstance, apart from abortion, such a devastating death toll would be considered unacceptable, and action would be taken immediately to prevent more deaths.
Once assisted suicide is legalised, the indifference to the plight of vulnerable persons becomes normalised and even institutionalised, leading to yet more suicide.
Life itself is devalued.
The terrible reality is that assisted suicide creates an expectation and pressure to choose death, making a mockery of the notion that such unfortunate persons willingly choose to die.
A dystopian nightmare – coming soon to you?
IT COULD HAPPEN TO YOU, OR ME, OR OUR RELATIVES AND FRIENDS.
“Injured whilst defending your nation? Have you considered suicide?”
“Struggling with poverty, madam? Have you considered suicide?”
Assisted suicide and non-assisted suicide have become the default response to illness, mental anguish, old age and even poverty in Canada – a dystopian nightmare that may soon blight the lives of children too.
Right now, the Canadian Government is considering whether to extend assisted suicide to sick children, following the despicable example of the Netherlands where sick children aged between 12 and 15 are forced to contemplate suicide as a so-called "option" for their illness.
“Terminally ill, lad? Have you considered suicide?”
Is this what we want for our children in the UK?

This is beyond what even the worst nightmare scenarios.
Yet it may be coming to the UK unless we wake up and act now to protect vulnerable people.
Once assisted suicide and euthanasia are imposed on a nation, no one is safe. Politicians and those who believe others are better off dead insist on ushering fellow citizens into early graves.
Canada is so far gone, indeed, that funeral homes are now offering assisted suicide rooms for individuals to die in, expediting the process from lethal dose to cold coffin. One such suicide room has already hosted 23 suicides.
The UK, the next target for assisted suicide
Despite the shocking evidence coming out of Canada and elsewhere, the pro-assisted suicide lobby is champing at the bit to introduce such legislation in the UK.
I have already mentioned how the anti-life lobby tries to pressurise Westminster and Holyrood by changing the law in smaller jurisdictions like Jersey and the Isle of Man.
In fact, they are already preparing to vote for MSP Liam McArthur’s deadly Assisted Suicide Bill for Scotland.
Every elderly, sick or disabled person in Scotland will be at risk.
It won’t stop there, either.
And just when assisted suicide threatens the people of Scotland, Philip Nitschke (known as the infamous “Dr Death”) wrote to Mr McArthur to advocate for his DIY suicide chamber to be introduced to Scotland should the Bill be introduced.
(Always a good time to tender a contract.)
Dr Death’s gas chambers are essentially DIY suicide coffins that kill and contain its occupant at home.

Scottish homes may soon be turned into funeral homes, should Mr McArthur and Dr Death get their way.
And all this is to say nothing of the atrocious, heartrending crises of conscience which many doctors, nurses and medical professionals will have to suffer.

This is a truly dystopian future – but one that there is still time to prevent, if you will help us.
The House of Commons Health and Social Care Committee has finished an inquiry, hearing evidence for and against assisted suicide, including examples of nations such as Canada.
This is why SPUC is rolling out an ENORMOUS campaign.
We are briefing supporters and politicians and equipping them with the answers they need to speak out for the sanctity of life.
We are carrying out high-volume leaflet drops and advertising to get the message out.
We have been commissioning research and preparing briefings which are winning allies in the higher echelons of the academic and political world.
We are collaborating with other groups opposed to assisted suicide and assisting them in their fight.
We must make politicians hear the truth about assisted suicide. We must give a voice to the vulnerable.
Will you help us fight against this before it’s too late?

The disabled, terminally ill and elderly — they would all be greatly harmed by permissive assisted suicide laws. A change in the law would mean that:
- Less public money will be invested in caring for dying patients – i.e., palliative care service and hospice funding cutbacks
- Patients will be pressurised into requesting their death as is already happening in Canada
- The “right to die” could quickly become “a duty to die.”
Protecting the frail and vulnerable starts with dismantling the false notions routinely peppering “assisted dying” propaganda in the UK. SPUC needs your help to do this.
Will you consider donating £10, £25 or £50 today to fund SPUC’s fight against assisted suicide and euthanasia in 2022?

PS: As Professor Boer’s revealing research bears out, when an activity is legalised, more people will avail themselves of it.
Euthanasia and assisted suicide laws are no exception.
From 2002 – the year the Netherlands’ euthanasia law came into effect – to 2016, euthanasia deaths as a percentage of total Dutch deaths tripled from 1.3% to 4.08%.
The Abortion Act opened the abortion floodgates in the UK. The slippery slope argument was correct then.
The slippery slope argument was correct in Canada.
The slippery slope argument will be correct today, with the McArthur Bill, for legalised medical killing, unless URGENT action is taken NOW.
