This is big news, friend.
Thanks to the work of LCV supporters like you, the
pro-environment House just passed the PFAS Action Act. We are one step closer to tackling the toxic water crisis impacting millions of families across the country.
A group of toxic chemicals — known as perfluoroalkyls (or PFAS for short) — are used all around us from clothing to firefighting foam, and they are ending up in our drinking water. In fact, more than 95% of the U.S. population has PFAS in their bodies. These chemicals are especially dangerous to children and have been linked to cancer, thyroid disease, and many other serious health problems.
Our communities are in crisis, but dedicated LCV supporters like you made the choice to speak out and we made huge progress in protecting our health — thank you!
Because of activists like you, the PFAS Action Act (H.R. 535) just passed the House. This is a critical bill that outlines a comprehensive strategy for tackling toxic PFAS in almost all aspects of our lives, and it is one of the first major bills to protect our clean water that passed out of the House in years.
I can't say this enough friend: This victory for public health and the environment wouldn't have been possible without the thousands of LCV supporters who spoke out, mobilized, and financially supported our work to push Congress to prioritize the needs of our communities and hold the chemical industry accountable for poisoning our families.
But the fight isn't over yet. To make these PFAS protections law, the Senate still needs to bring up and pass the PFAS Action Act.
Mitch McConnell thinks he can continue to side with chemical companies and stop action on PFAS from happening in the Senate, but he hasn't reckoned with the power of advocates like us. We're going to need your help to support pro-environment champions in the Senate to make sure this legislation is prioritized, and we'll keep you informed every step of the way. Please,
take the next step in this fight and send a message to your senators to act on the PFAS crisis »
Thank you for all that you do.
