It’s been a long road, friend, but we’re fast approaching my last day as Chair of the Iowa Democratic Party. The Iowa Democratic Party State Central Committee will vote tomorrow to elect officers, and as I shared last month, I am not seeking reelection as Chair.

When I first took office in January of 2021, we were in a completely different world. COVID-19 vaccines had just started to become available to the public, the scars of the insurrectionists’ attack on our nation’s Capitol were still fresh, and President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris had just rolled out their groundbreaking first piece of legislation – the American Rescue Plan.

We have made incredible strides since those first few days, even if it doesn’t always feel like it. We adapted to a changing world with the resources we had and did our best to fight for a better future for every Iowan. And even when we came up short, we kept going.

My family’s story and my lived experiences are woven into the fabric of this state – so I’m not going anywhere. I hope you’ll join me in showing up, speaking out, and staying engaged in your communities.

I have the utmost faith that whoever takes up the mantle next will guide our party with grace through the challenges ahead.

It has been the honor of my life to serve as Chair and bear witness to the incredible work and dedication of Iowa Democrats in every corner of our state.
