Approximately 15 million people will lose their health insurance coverage when the Medicaid program returns to its pre-pandemic levels in April.

Not surprisingly, Black, Indigenous, and people of color will be disproportionately impacted. 4.6 million Latinos, 2.2 million African Americans, and nearly a million Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders risk losing their health insurance coverage if states don’t do the moral thing and act to keep people insured.

Of those 15 million who will lose insurance? 5.3 million are children who will lose Medicaid coverage. 75% of children will lose their coverage -- not because they don’t qualify -- but because of bureaucratic hurdles.

We cannot sit back and allow this to happen. We’re putting pressure on Texas Governor Greg Abbott and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis -- two of the largest and most culturally diverse states with the highest uninsured rates -- to build a user-friendly Medicaid system that makes it easier for eligible people to get or keep their insurance, opt-in to the Medicaid expansion that’s part of the Affordable Care Act to get more people insured, or help them buy federally subsidized private insurance through the Healthcare Marketplace.

We know this is an uphill battle, but that’s never stopped us before. We can’t do this without your support. Chip in $5 to protect millions of people from losing their health care this spring.

We’re on the brink of a major civil rights and health care disaster.

If states don’t step up and meet this moment, millions of people will lose Medicaid coverage when the program goes back to its pre-pandemic levels in April.

Already, we’ve sent more than 7,000 messages directly to Governors Greg Abbott of Texas and Ron DeSantis of Florida -- two states with the highest number of uninsured residents -- to set up call centers to assist people with continuing their Medicaid coverage if they qualify, or help them buy a private insurance plan through the ACA Healthcare Marketplace with a subsidy.

We’re still dealing with the ramifications of a once-in-a -century deadly worldwide pandemic. Millions of people are living with the effects of Long COVID and there’s still the highly contagious RSV respiratory virus that is continuing to spread among babies and children. Eliminating the health insurance of millions of people with low incomes is unconscionable.
