#LowcountryFirst Pass In Review | January 27, 2023 Protecting Parris Island Good afternoon and happy Friday! It’s been another busy week in Washington, and we can’t wait to update you on all of our hard work. On Tuesday, we kicked off the week with a classified briefing on foreign affairs. It’s always important to stay up to speed on important issues facing our world. On Wednesday, we introduced a bill to protect Parris Island. It was co-sponsored by Congressman Joe Wilson, Senior Member of the House Armed Services Committee, Congressman Ralph Norman, Congressman William Timmons, Congressman Jeff Duncan, and Congressman Russell Fry. This important legislation prohibits the use of federal funds to close or plan the closure of the Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island. Read more about the bill here. Later on Wednesday, we attended a meeting of the House Armed Services Committee before votes in the evening. Also on Wednesday, we reintroduced the Standing With Mom’s Act alongside Senator Marco Rubio. This legislation will create a website called life.gov. This site will serve as a resource portal providing pregnant women in every state access to the most comprehensive network of resources available at the federal, state and local level as well as in the private sector. Read more about this bill here. On Thursday, our office fulfilled a promise to the state of South Carolina. We passed an amendment prohibiting offshore drilling of our coast until at least 2032. This amendment is a victory for the state of South Carolina , and all those who have long advocated for protecting our coast from the dangers of offshore drilling. It is also a win for our local community coming who relies on the tourism industry; it’s a win for the environment and for future generations who will benefit from the preservation of these priceless resources. On Thursday afternoon we also had the chance to meet Coach Beamer of the Gamecocks! It was great to visit with him in Washington. Our team is looking forward to holding many more events this year! To stay in the loop on when we hold our next event, please take a look at our Eventbrite page! Get all the details and RSVP here. As an update, our Charleston office has changed locations. We are no longer in West Ashley and have moved to 652 Coleman Blvd. in Mt. Pleasant. Also, our Washington, D.C. office has moved to 1728 Longworth House Office Building. As always, our office is here to lend a hand whenever we can. As we start this new year, please reach out to our office if you have any questions, concerns, or just want to be heard on any issue at any time. We’re here to help. It’s an immense honor to serve each and every one of you. Sincerely, Congresswoman Nancy Mace Visit My Website DISTRICT DOG OF THE WEEK 🐶 This week's District Dog is Seamus!
