Protecting the United States from the Aggression of the Chinese Communist Party This week, I was appointed to serve on the House Select Committee on Strategic Competition between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party. This Committee will focus on reclaiming U.S. economic independence in key areas and on exposing the CCP's coordinated, whole-of-society strategy to undermine American leadership. The United States is in a great power struggle with the CCP, and we must respond with tough policies that will protect our farmland, rebuild our national supply chains, stand up for human rights, and safeguard American sovereignty. Last Congress, I introduced the Prohibition of Agriculture Land for the People's Republic of China Act which would prohibit the purchase of public or private agricultural land in the U.S. by foreign nationals associated with the CCP. This legislation is crucial in protecting our farmland right here in Central Washington and defending American sovereignty. I look forward to serving on the House China Select Committee and continuing the fight to ensure our agriculture industry and food supply chain are protected from any and all attacks. Learn More About My Appointment Here     Combating the Opioid Crisis in Central Washington No corner of our community is untouched by the skyrocketing drug crisis. Fentanyl is now the leading cause of death for people ages 18-45. Earlier this week, I visited the great folks at Ideal Option in Kennewick. Their flagship outpatient clinic provides treatment for addition to opioids like fentanyl, heroin, and exycodone, and stimulants like methamphetamine and cocaine. The program they've developed has paved the way for 80 clinics across 11 states to treat more than 65,000 patients with substance abuse disorder. Locally, they treat approximately 100 patients per day. In Congress this week, I introduced the Save Americans from the Fentanyl Emergency Act or SAFE Act. This legislation would permanently schedule all fentanyl-related substances as Schedule I drugs to ensure law enforcement can keep them off the streets. The numerous conversations I've had with law enforcement officers, health care experts, and opioid clinics have made one thing abundantly clear: they need more tools to fight back against this crisis in our communities. I will continue to be a leader in confronting the opioid crisis and ensure that excellent treatment facilities like Ideal Option and our law enforcement officers have the resources they need to fight this epidemic. Every farmer, rancher, or property owner who moves dirt will be harmed by this rule. This week, I Ied nearly 200 House Republicans in penning a letter to the Biden Administration demanding that it rescinds a regulation that could threaten the livelihoods of thousands of U.S. farmers and ranchers. This letter emphasizes my commitment to fighting back against this clear government overreach and representing the voices of Central Washingtonians who are united against this rulemaking.
