John, every year thousands of bills are introduced in Congress, but only a fraction make it to the President's desk to be signed into law.
Each bill is filtered by topic to different committees where legislators hold hearings with experts available to the public — in short, committees are how we ensure a democratic process in our lawmaking.
As an organizer and as a legislator in the State House defending against a right-wing majority — my work has always been about giving power back to working people by making government accountable to them.
I am proud to announce that I have been assigned to the powerful Oversight and Accountability Committee where I’ll fight corruption, expose corporate greed, and go toe-to-toe with the white supremacist super-villains exploiting your tax dollars to peddle hate-for-profit.
I’ll also join the Science, Space, and Technology Committee, where I’ll deliver funding to fuel Western PA innovation, bring research dollars back to our institutions, and break down barriers for Black, brown, and marginalized folks in STEM. And I’ll work towards clean energy manufacturing that will open the door for climate justice, clean air and water in every neighborhood, fair wages, dignified work conditions, and thousands of union jobs.
While I am thrilled to serve on these committees, I’ll be going toe-to-toe with right-wing extremists and fearmongers like Lauren Boebert, Marjorie Taylor Greene, and Paul Gosar, who will have power over the committee impacting democracy, free and fair elections, and our civil rights. And on Science, we have George Santos, a man who can’t seem to keep any facts straight — let alone serve on a committee where correct data is key.
We're going to need to work hard and organize to get our bold, progressive priorities through Congress and stop extremists from pushing their agenda forward to undermine democracy. We’re going to need the resources to keep up the fight. Can you chip in $5 today to help my team and me continue to fight for working people today?
Thank you,
Summer
