Recently, Rep. Buddy Carter of Georgia, and other far-right extremists, proposed the Fair Tax Act, their way of "simplifying" the tax code, and making it "fairer".
But the only thing this bill actually does is put more money in the pockets of the super wealthy. How? Let us break it down:
This bill essentially eliminates the federal income tax and replaces it with a flat rate sales tax. And while they claim that it's set at 23%, Americans would actually be paying closer to 30% because of the way the tax is calculated.
That means that the price you pay for everyday purchases like gas, groceries and everything in between, would skyrocket. And Delia's colleague House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries said it best: this bill is placing the burden on families who are already being crushed by rising inflation rates.
John, this isn't the first or last time that Republicans will try to further their own agendas at the expense of the American people. While Delia and her colleagues are working their hardest, it's going to take a strong coalition of grassroots support to get things done. With our End of Month Deadline so close, will you chip in what you can?
