Dear John,
This week, I was back in Washington for a busy few days! Here’s what I’ve been up to this week.
First up: I reintroduced my HUMBLE Act. This bill will help us reform Washington by banning Members of Congress from owning or trading individual stocks, imposing a lifetime ban on lobbying for Members, banning Members of Congress from flying first class with taxpayer funds or serving on corporate boards and withholding Member pay if Congress does not elect a Speaker on the first day of a new Congress.
I was sent to Congress to lower health care costs, fix the roads and bridges and help create good-paying jobs – not play the stock market and line my own pockets. But unfortunately, I’ve seen too many of my colleagues sidetracked by special interests throughout my time here. My HUMBLE Act will help ensure my colleagues’ focus remains where it should: making life better for their constituents.
On Wednesday, I helped pass 3 bipartisan bills to help support small businesses in the Second District. Small businesses power our economy, and it’s critical we give them the support they need to grow and expand. I was proud to pass these bills and I’ll never stop looking for ways to support our Second District small businesses!
Finally, I’ve been frustrated by the lack of consistent service levels for mail delivery in many cities across the Second District. So I’m asking you directly what you’ve been experiencing. Yesterday, I launched a survey so I can hear directly from you about the ways you and your family have been impacted by USPS delays, and I’m going to send your stories directly to Postmaster General Louis DeJoy.
So, please submit your stories, comments and concerns in the survey below. I’ll keep fighting until we get some accountability from the Postmaster General.
Here's what else I've been up to this week:
Meeting with Minnesota Head Start Every child, no matter their family income or zip code, should have an equal opportunity to succeed. This week, I met with Minnesota’s Head Start Association to discuss how we can work together to support Second District early learners and families to ensure all our children are set up for success.
Launching the Heartland Caucus
This week, my colleagues and I officially launched the Heartland Caucus to ensure that all Midwestern states have a seat at the table – and at the leadership table - in Washington.
Meeting with Minnesota Steelworkers
It was great to catch up with Bob Ryan from the mighty Steelworkers District 11 in DC this week. Thank you for all that you do to fight for working families across the Second District!
Behind the scenes with Rep. Craig:
For this week’s behind-the-scenes moment, I want to give a shoutout to our awesome Ag Liaison, Les Anderson, who was awarded the Kernel Award from the Minnesota Corn Growers Association last week. Thank you for your hard work on behalf of all family farmers in the Second District, Les!
I also thought I’d share a Minnesota moment I had when I got back to DC on Monday. This is how I found the candy bowl in my office when I arrived back in DC after being home in Minnesota for the week…Minnesotans get it.
Well, that about wraps it up for this week. I hope you all have a great weekend – talk soon!
Until next time,
Angie Craig
Member of Congress
