John,

We recently announced our first endorsement of 2023, Parisa Dehghani-Tafti
— and it's going to take all of us getting fully behind her to make sure
that she wins her re-election. In just a moment, we’re going to ask you to
split a donation between Real Justice and Parisa’s campaign. Before we do
that, we want to take the time to explain the phenomenal work she’s done
in office.

[ [link removed] ]If you don’t have the time to read on, we understand! But, before you
go, please make a split donation right now to help make sure that Parisa
wins her re-election, and so that we can elect more justice champions like
Parisa into DA offices across the country.

Three years ago, Parisa announced that she would be running for chief
prosecutor to turn Arlington County and the city of Falls Church, Virginia
into a model for how to run a criminal justice system that provides safety
and justice for all.

We endorsed her in 2018 because we knew she was the right candidate to
accomplish that.

And in just just 3 years, in the midst of a pandemic, she stood up against
constant resistance from opponents of reform and a right-wing recall
campaign to achieve extraordinary progress in reforming the criminal legal
system for the people of Arlington County and Falls Church.

After taking office, Parisa kept her promise and ended cash bail. This is
a big step in criminal legal reform because it stops our system from
preying on those with less money. Being able to afford bail after being
arrested should have no bearing on whether you pose a threat to the public
or not as you wait for a trial.

Parisa also got rid of the death penalty. This is huge because Virginia
had put 1,389 people to death — more than any other U.S state. Evidence
shows that the death penalty is imposed disproportionately on Black and
poor people. But worst, is the unreasonable risk that innocent individuals
will be executed. There have been over 100 people who were killed by the
death penalty but were later exonerated because they were actually
innocent.

She didn’t stop there, Parisa made it a priority to support crime victims.
She transformed the system to make sure that victims weren’t shuffled
around from one prosecutor to another, where they have to tell their
traumatizing experience over and over. Parisa ensured that victims had one
prosecutor on the case from start to finish.

John, these
are just a few of Parisa’s many accomplishments in office, and because of
her success, we know that the same conservative mega-donors who launched a
right-wing recall campaign against her are going to try to defeat her this
year.

[ [link removed] ]If you agree that we need to protect all of Parisa’s progress, and
that we should have justice champions like Parisa in DA offices all across
the country, then please split a contribution today between Parisa’s
campaign and Real Justice.
