2023 is off to a running start and your January Groundwork Project Newsletter is here to catch you up on everything we have going on.

This month brought deadly tornadoes to Alabama, devastating communities across the state and killing seven people. Folks are united to support and help residents rebuild, read more below about how you can help. The Oklahoma state legislature is moving forward harmful anti-trans legislation and Groundwork partners are working to advocate against it.

After deadly tornadoes swept through Alabama, communities are rebuilding across the state. In Selma, organizers, residents, and community leaders have come together to start rebuilding.

In Oklahoma, conservative state leaders are attempting to bar gender-affirming care from anyone under 26. Not only is the legislation harmful to trans youth, it would force people currently receiving care under 26 to “medically detransition.”

West Virginia Black Policy Day
What it is: Meals, roundtables with WV lawmakers, youth activities, policy discussions, vendors, and more all centered around the Black policy framework.
Why it’s important: Organizing, centering Black priorities, and building power in the Black community is a critical part of our shared work towards equity and justice for all.
What you can do: Last year’s Black Policy Day was the first of its kind and this year there are even more ways to engage! You can RSVP to attend (in-person or virtually), or donate to Black Policy Day here [[link removed]] and support the work of our friends at WV’s Black Voter Impact Initiative.

Months after news broke about the water crisis in Jackson, MS, national resources are starting to lighten. The Immigrant Alliance for Equity and Justice stepped up to secure and distribute water to residents. Donate to support this critical work helping our neighbors in Jackson. [[link removed]]
