Dear Pro-life Friend,

In my last email, I told you about how the SPUC is fighting for our right to speak freely about immoral laws – a right which the gears of the Abortion Machine want to grind into dust.

I hope that you will give your backing to SPUC in 2023, and that you will consider making a donation to support the 4 Key Aims of SPUC’s work this year.

The 4 Key Aims are:

1. DEFEND pro-life speech

SPUC has been fighting to protect pro-life students in the Freedom of Speech Bill, which is still before Parliament.

But with the politicians backing buffer zones, things have moved more rapidly than anyone expected.

The Public Order Bill – currently before the Lords – looks set to restrict our freedom of assembly significantly.

Can we trust a Parliament to safeguard our rights, when it votes to restrict them?

Already, Isabel Vaughan-Spruce, a pro-life leader, has been charged with four counts of “breaching the exclusion zone” imposed near an abortion clinic.

She will be appearing at the Magistrates’ Court on February 2.

Her crime? Praying silently.

And Adam Smith-Connor – an Army veteran – has been fined for the same “offence”. He was praying silently for his son who was aborted over twenty years ago.

And we hear that there are moves afoot to introduce a “human right to abortion” into UK law.

How can we make abortion unthinkable if we’re not allowed to even talk about it?

Will we even be “permitted” to fight against something that is recognised as a “human right”?

SPUC stands ready to fight for our fundamental rights and to stand with pro-lifers penalised by these draconian laws.

But we need your support.

2. BLOCK efforts to introduce assisted suicide law
Few things reek of the Third Reich like euthanasia and “assisted suicide.”

There are currently consultations about legalising state-sponsored death on Jersey and the Isle of Man. There is also a serious threat in Scotland, where Liam McArthur’s Assisted Dying Bill will be debated in the coming months.

International euthanasia activists are using these devolved administrations as guinea pigs to push
their deadly agenda throughout the whole of the UK.

If assisted suicide is legalised in any part of the UK, it will have massive and catastrophic repercussions for the whole country.

Pressure is already growing in England. The Health and Social Care Select Committee in Westminster recently launched a consultation on assisted suicide.

ACTION: We are sending a strong message to MPs that assisted suicide is a dangerous and unethical practice that must never be legalised in any part of the UK.

We are mobilising SPUC’s network of grassroots branches and activists to respond to the consultation, and brief media and politicians against the McArthur Bill.

We produced a new briefing on the changes in the law and launched a new website to help supporters. We are carrying out an enormous leaflet drop to warn the Scottish public about the dire situation they are facing.

SPUC’s briefings empower ordinary men and women to make their voices heard. The power of ordinary people to change the direction of politics should never be underestimated – politicians are dependent on your votes.

They can’t choose not to care what you think. SPUC has a track record of forcing politicians to back down.

3. Raise awareness of COERCION and the HARM being done to women by abortion
The latest official statistics show that the use of medical abortion pills (as opposed to surgery) has doubled since 2010 and now accounts for 85% of all abortions in England and Wales (it’s 97% in Scotland).

Yet a Finnish study of 42,600 patients found that abortion pills lead to as many as 4 times more serious complications than surgical abortions.

All abortions are wrong, and are tragedies. But this shows the hollowness of the "concerns about women" amongst pro-abortion forces.

Coercion of all types is an enormous crisis too.  A WHO multi-country study found that women with a history of domestic abuse were almost three times more at risk of abortion.

This is not what people think of when they talk about being
“pro-choice.”

It is vital that we encourage victims of abortion coercion to fight for justice, and support them where we can. We must change the way people talk about abortion. We must ensure their voices are heard.

And it’s vital that we call on the Government to condemn this abhorrent practice.

ACTION:
  • Support legal fights, raise awareness and secure justice for those experiencing abortion coercion
  • Make the problem impossible to ignore for the mainstream press and media.

4. EXPAND pro-life outreach to youth and the general public
They say that “culture eats strategy for breakfast.” This is certainly true for the pro-abortion zealots, who have marched through the cultural institutions of our nations, and now hold all the levers of power.

But if they turned the tide with lies, then we can turn it back with truth. Winning hearts and minds (especially of the young) is a battle that we cannot afford to lose.

Sophie Scholl and her Weiße Rose student movement knew this, and they were prepared to give up their lives to make the truth known to the rising generation.

In 2023, we are committed to funding three major outreach projects:

ACTION:

  • Schools: The Scottish Herald has attacked SPUC’s outreach to schools and Scottish politicians  are calling for investigations. When the pro-aborts are rattled, we know that what we are doing is working. Last year we took the pro-life message to 101 schools across the UK. In 2023 we must do even better. We aim to reach more than 200 schools this year.
  • 2023 Youth Conference: This major event in the pro-life calendar will be staged in February.  The event builds strong and lasting networks, which help young pro-lifers get active and spread the pro-life message in their own part of the country.
  • Grassroots Training Events: This is another NEW project. SPUC staff will be travelling the length and breadth of the country training our supporters with the new activist and advocacy skills needed to win this fight.

January is always a critical month for SPUC’s work.

It’s the month of our annual White Flower Appeal – the single largest fundraising effort of the year. But we have been hammered ever since Covid radically reduced church attendance.

The amount we receive in January determines what we can do over the rest of the year.

That’s why I am so very grateful to everyone who has contributed to this January appeal so far.

Our New Year GOAL is ÂŁ100,000

If everyone receiving this email was to donate just ÂŁ10 today, then I could sign off the necessary paperwork to ensure that these four crucial, life-saving projects are put into action.

Donate
No donation is ever too small (or too big). Every pound that we receive – no, every penny – brings us a step closer to making abortion unthinkable.

The measures I have outlined are vital.

If we action them,
BABIES WILL BE SAVED.

If we do not, BABIES WILL DIE.

So will you consider donating ÂŁ10, ÂŁ25 or ÂŁ30 today to save a precious life?

Donate
You may even be in a position to contribute a larger gift of £50 - £100 - £500 - £1,000 or more?

Donate
No matter what the size, EVERY gift that we receive this month will enable us to protect unborn children in our campaign, cultural and caring work.

The more funds that can be raised in January, the more lives can be saved in 2023.

Thank you for your kindness and for your love for our babies.

Yours in defence of life,
John Deighan
Chief Executive Officer

PS: These are not the only plans we have for 2023.

I cannot give the full details now, but we are preparing to launch a nationwide project, the likes of which we have never seen in the pro-life efforts of this nation.

But I will only be able to launch this new project if our existing urgent commitments are met.

Without you, we really can do
nothing.

Will you help us protect these innocents – please?
