Why do we send all these fundraising emails? And why, on this random Friday at the end of January, is it so important for you to make a donation to VoteVets today?

Totally fair questions. Here’s our shot at answering:

First, there’s the debt ceiling fight. Republicans are going to want to cut, cut, cut all kinds of spending — including spending that funds Veterans programs.

We can’t let that happen. We need to make sure our elected officials are hearing from Veterans and military families. We need to make sure those programs are saved.

That is the work VoteVets does. But the flights to DC for Veterans, the ads, the calls into offices — those aren’t free.

Then there are elections. This is the most important election cycle in modern American history. EVERYTHING is on the line. Trump, the White House, and control of the House and Senate are so close...

We are going to take a portion of every donation and squirrel it away for that work as well. And we have to start now because these campaigns are starting now.

And the truth is, almost all of our donations come from emails like this. We spent $24 million last cycle, and we don’t raise that all in a day. So that’s why all the emails. And that is why today, we are asking:

Can you please make a contribution of any amount you can afford to VoteVets today? We will put it to work saving Veterans programs from Republican cuts and toward our electoral work this cycle.
