Friend, let me tell you the story of HJ Kim, a United We Dream member, a DACA recipient, and a mother of one.
Ever since HJ came to the U.S. from South Korea at around the age of 12, she has lived in California, Hawai’i, Montana and Alaska — but she calls Alaska her home.
She first applied for DACA when she learned she was pregnant with her son, Alex. HJ wanted to protect herself and Alex, and make sure she could provide a good environment for him.
But with the DACA program at risk once again in the courts, it’s a terrifying reality to think she might not be able to care or provide for Alex, or might even be forced to leave her son behind in the country she calls home.
So HJ (and her son Alex!) have joined the fight for more permanent protections. They’ve been traveling to Washington, DC since Alex was just 2 years old to represent undocumented people, meet with members of Congress, and secure a pathway to citizenship.
HJ, Alex, and their Congresswoman — Rep. Mary Peltola!
DACA recipients like myself, HJ, and thousands more are fighting for a pathway to citizenship because we know temporary solutions like DACA are not enough.
HJ and Alex joined hundreds of activists last December in our efforts to demand Congress deliver a pathway to citizenship. Now, we need you to join the fight too:
Will you make a donation of $7 or more today to help United We Dream Action win permanent protections for DACA recipients like HJ and ALL undocumented people?
If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will go through immediately:
Securing permanent protections means living without fear of detention, deportation, or being separated from our families. It means assuring that HJ can continue caring and providing for Alex with fearlessness and stability.
HJ’s a proud mother. She’s a proud sister. She’s a proud immigrant woman. She is a proud Alaskan. She’s happy to be a part of this community and happy to be your neighbor.
This is home, and HJ is here to stay.
Thank you for listening to her story and for supporting our work to achieve a better future for all undocumented people.
Nestor, United We Dream Action
