Nourishing Our Roots for Healing 9th Annual Tribal Leaders Summit March 22nd & 23rd, 2023 Nourishing Our Roots for Healing The Coalition to Stop Violence Against Native Women (CSVANW) is excited to share space with you all back in person for our 9th Annual Tribal Leaders Summit, a two-day summit on the status of violence against Native women and children in New Mexico. The annual Tribal Leaders Summit is a free briefing for tribal, state and federal officials and those who work with victims of sexual assault and domestic violence. An annual briefing that focuses on providing policy and legislative updates, share best practices directly from our communities and provide a current state of affairs in the movement to end violence. The summit highlights the unique tribal, state and federal perspectives and challenges that our New Mexico tribal communities face in regards to addressing and responding to violence against our Native women and children. COVID-19 Mitigation: 2023 Tribal Leaders Summit The Coalition to Stop Violence Against Native Women (CSVANW) understands that Indigenous peoples have been disproportionately affected by the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. COVID-19 poses a critical health threat to Indigenous peoples and has exacerbated pre-existing inequalities and systemic racism. This has continued to create challenges such as inadequate access to health care. Due to this unfortunate socioeconomic consequence, Indigenous children, peoples with disabilities and elders have been hit particularly hard. According to the Human Rights Council, Indigenous peoples are more likely to die due to the contraction of the Coronavirus. As Indigenous leaders and advocates it is imperative that we continue to take action and precautions to reduce the transmission of COVID-19 in our communities. Therefore, in order to host a safe environment for our 2023 Tribal Leaders Summit, CSVANW has decided to implement mandatory mask wearing during the 2-day event. This will also include safe practices such as: Before the Summit Testing before attendance Packing hand sanitizers (CSVANW will also have PPE available at registration) During the Summit Mandatory mask wearing Social distancing Hand washing (CSVANW will have air purifier equipment in shared spaces) After the Summit Reporting positive COVID-19 results Or in close proximity of someone who has tested positive for COVID-19 It is important to remember that Community Care is a shared responsibility.
