Monday, Reps. Michelle Steel (CA-45) and Ashley Hinson (IA-02) were appointed
to the House Select Committee on Strategic Competition between the U.S. and the
CCP, a newly created panel under House Republicans.The panel will focus on
military and security issues, as well as the CCP's infiltration of domestic
industries. Michelle and Ashley will bring their diverse experiences and
backgrounds to the bipartisan committee.

Tuesday, during National School Choice Week, Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds signed
into law her sweeping school choice bill.The Students First Act will allow

state funding to follow a student to the school of their family's choice.This
is an exciting accomplishment for Governor Reynolds and for all Iowa students
and families.

Wednesday, Rep. Beth Van Duyne (TX-24) joined her Republican colleagues in
calling out the Biden Administration for its failure to secure the Southern
Border.



The humanitarian and national security situation at the border continues to
deteriorate. December 2022 saw the highest number of illegal border crossings
in a single month -- more than 251,000. So far in 2023, 38 terrorists have been
apprehended. This crisis is untenable for border communities, dangerous for
every state, and horrifying for the women and children making the dangerous
journey.

Thursday, Rep. Nancy Mace (SC-01) helped passed legislation to protect Marine
Corps recruit depot Parris Island.



"Since opening over a century ago, Parris Island has served a vital role in
the defense of America. Over one million brave Marines have trained at the base
and served our country in every conflict since World War I.” said Congresswoman
Mace. “Parris Island is fundamental to our national defense, and it's vital we
continue to make Marines there."
