Context's 'The future of food' series featured on Pocket

We have teamed up with Pocket – a Mozilla product which lets you discover and save content – to showcase stories from our new digital news platform, Context.

The first of our three ‘Pocket Collections’ centres around the future of food. Our articles and videos examine the links between what we eat and issues including global inflation, food insecurity and climate change – as well as the potential of technology to change what we consume as part of the shift towards a more sustainable future.

Media Freedom:

Legal guide on laws relating to “fake news” in Russia translated into two new languages

Last year, our global pro bono service, TrustLaw, launched a legal guide to help journalists and newsrooms understand the new laws relating to “fake news” in Russia, and how they’ve been applied to local and international press. We are pleased to announce that this resource is now available in Russian and Ukrainian, making it more accessible to journalists around the world.

The guide was co-produced with the Committee to Protect Journalists, with pro bono legal research provided by Hogan Lovells.

Inclusive Economies:

Indian tech firm Byju’s summoned by watchdog over Context expose

Last month, Context published a two-part investigation into the business practices of leading Indian education technology company Byju’s, uncovering harsh working conditions and the mistreatment of customers. In response to this expose – which revealed employees being made to work long hours under threat and aggressive sales tactics targeted at vulnerable and low-income families – the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) issued summons highlighting the company’s malpractices. This is believed to be the first such notice issued to an edtech company in India over its sales practices.

Human Rights:

Why Germany's coal mine struggle matters to all of us

Luisa Neubauer is a prominent German climate activist who successfully sued the German government over its climate inaction. In this opinion piece for Context, she unpacks the recent protests against the expansion of the Garzweiler mine, located in the German Rhineland.

For more than two years, activists – including local people, environmentalists and supporters from around the world – occupied Luetzerath to protest the ongoing coal extraction. Despite being evicted, they put a spotlight on the environmental destruction in the region and the urgency to end fossil fuel deals in order to achieve climate justice.
