NCRC Statement On Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing (AFFH) Rule
By NCRC
“The Fair Housing Act does more than prohibit and restrict discriminatory practices. It requires HUD and its funding recipients to be proactive in advancing fair housing and remedying segregation. The 2015 AFFH regulation was an important and meaningful step toward requiring recipients to take this obligation seriously – but was rescinded by Trump administration opponents of civil rights very shortly after it went into effect. None of us is immune to schemes that have proven their staying power. A common tactic is to seek to exploit basic human emotions such as excitement or fear to provoke a spontaneous ‘gut reaction’ to the scam offer. Such scams also abuse people’s trust by making a scam look like a legitimate offer from a reputable business or official institution. [Register here ([link removed] ) ]

Bad Home Advice Dished Out On House Hunters
By Daniel Feininger, House Digest
This glossing-over effect signals that race, sexual orientation, and other facets of a person's identity are irrelevant in the home-buying process. As The New York Times highlights, black families have historically found it much harder to secure a mortgage loan than white families. Same-sex couples could also face an uphill battle in securing funding (via National Community Reinvestment Coalition). This is certainly not the case for every home buyer in a marginalized group. However, these buyers should be prepared with knowledge of these facts and the drive to overcome any adversity. [Read more ([link removed] ) ]

By Jennifer Jacobs and Annmarie Hordern, American Banker
Brainard and Powell have similar views on monetary policy, but differ over bank regulation, with Brainard opposing at nearly every step Powell's modest rollbacks of some of the tough curbs imposed on banks after the financial crisis. Her support for the Fed to do more to fight climate change has won her support among Democrats. [Read More ([link removed] ) ]
Meet The Latest Housing-Crisis Scapegoat
By Jerusalem Demsas, The Atlantic

The story goes like this: Housing costs are unaffordable because [INSERT BAD COMPANY HERE] is greedy and jacking up prices. The villain can be Airbnb or developers; it can be deep-pocketed foreigners or iBuyers. The story is compelling because it does not directly implicate regular people, sympathetic institutions, or elected officials. [Read more] ([link removed] )
