GDP report reveals ominous Great Depression warning sign not seen since 1932 - That’s because economic growth is slowing down. Even the areas which contributed positively to gross domestic product (GDP) are not necessarily signs of prosperity. For example, business investment grew at only 1.4 percent in the fourth quarter, but that was almost entirely inventory growth. Nonresidential investment, a key driver of future economic growth, was up just 0.7 percent. Meanwhile, residential investment fell off a cliff, dropping 26.7 percent as consumers were unable to afford the combination of high home prices, high interest rates, and falling real incomes. No wonder homeownership affordability has fallen to the lowest level in that metric’s history. Heritage Expert: EJ Antoni and Parker Sheppard
Congressman Adam Schiff posts a TikTok video after being removed from the House Intelligence Committee – As we debate solutions to the TikTok problem, its important to understand the app has captured the left. Politicians like Schiff are reliant on the platform to message and campaign. This is why they favor a U.S. sale over a ban. It has nothing to do with security. Heritage Expert: Jake Denton
Early Decision Results Are in For College Applicants—Was It a Bloodbath Again? – This rise in Asian American student admissions—though small—will be seen by many as confirmation that Harvard was indeed artificially keeping the numbers down for these students in the past. Now, with the case at the Supreme Court, Harvard felt a need to raise these admissions. While we celebrate this victory for Asian American students and their parents, Americans cannot let universities crowd out any student simply on racial preferences. It is unconscionable that hard-working students were kept out of schools like Harvard based on their national origin and hopefully the Supreme Court will rectify this injustice and prevent it from happening again. GDP Report Shows Recession Risks Remain Elevated - Real GDP growth stalled in 2022, a year with two quarters of negative growth, a common indicator of the start of a recession. Different measures of the labor market are sending conflicting signals about whether the economy has peaked. Yet, unemployment is near all-time lows and is likely to rise back toward its long-run average in the near term. Heritage Expert: Parker Sheppard and EJ Antoni
South Dakota Democrat Says the ‘Quiet Part Out Loud’ on Abortion - When the U.S. Supreme Court struck down Roe v. Wade in the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization ruling last June, South Dakota’s “trigger law” came into effect. The law, passed in 2005, made it a felony for a person to induce an abortion except in cases where the pregnancy poses a threat to the mother’s life. “Any person who administers to any pregnant female or who prescribes or procures for any pregnant female any medicine, drug, or substance or uses or employs any instrument or other means with intent thereby to procure an abortion, unless there is appropriate and reasonable medical judgment that performance of an abortion is necessary to preserve the life of the pregnant female, is guilty of a Class 6 felony,” the law states.
