Senators Blocked from Viewing Documents Seized from Both Donald Trump and Joe Biden

NBC: Senators in both parties voiced frustration after they left a closed-door briefing Wednesday with National Intelligence Director Avril Haines, who declined to show them copies of the classified documents discovered at Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort and Joe Biden’s office and Delaware home. Haines also refused to discuss the sensitive material, citing ongoing special counsel investigations, according to members of the Senate Intelligence Committee who attending the classified briefing (NBC). Hill: Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.), a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, said he and other Republicans will hold up President Biden’s nominees until the administration shares with Congress the classified documents seized at Biden’s Delaware home and Washington office and former President Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate (Hill).

Border Crisis Claiming Lives as Fentanyl Deaths Soar
New York Post: Fentanyl seizures across the US southern border continue to skyrocket, with 9,400 pounds of the killer drug seized between October and December, a 241% increase year-on-year, according to federal figures. The synthetic opioid continues to poison the country, and smugglers are eschewing other drugs to bring it in, with fentanyl busts increasing 52% month-on-month in December (New York Post). Ktxs: The King County Medical Examiner’s office in Washington state is struggling to find space to store bodies due to spiking fentanyl overdose deaths. Dr. Faisal Kahn, who is the director of Public Health Seattle & King County, said preliminary data shows 2022 will set a “heartbreaking record” for overdose deaths (Ktxs). Rep. Adam Schiff Announces Senate Run, Immediately Gets Attacked by Progressive Group
National Review: Representative Adam Schiff announced Thursday that he will be launching a campaign for Senator Dianne Feinstein’s California seat in 2024. Schiff was recently removed from the House Intelligence Committee by Speaker Kevin McCarthy in response to the former’s conduct as a lead investigator during the Trump impeachment hearings (National Review). Fox News: A progressive group was quick to attack Rep. Adam Schiff after he announced his bid for California’s U.S. Senate seat Thursday. “Adam Schiff plays the role of Trump antagonist on TV, but a recent book details how he stalled and undermined leaders trying to hold Trump accountable in Congress. And he never challenges corporations or the Democratic establishment,” Adam Green, co-founder of the Progressive Change Campaign Committee, said (Fox News).

California Judge Mandates Footage of Paul Pelosi’s Attack Be Released
Fox News: A judge in California has ordered the release of video of the attack on Paul Pelosi – the husband of former U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi – inside their San Francisco home. San Francisco Superior Court Judge Stephen Murphy denied a request by prosecutors Wednesday and declared that there is no reason to keep the footage secret after it was aired by the prosecution during a preliminary hearing last month, Thomas Burke, an attorney representing news agencies in the matter (Fox News). Associated Press: When news organizations asked for copies of that evidence, the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office refused to release it. The attack, which occurred just days before the 2022 midterm elections, prompted intense speculation from the public that fueled the spread of false information. The district attorney’s office argued releasing the footage publicly would only allow people to manipulate it in their quest to spread false information (Associated Press).

Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin confirmed that al-Sudani had been killed in a statement (CNN). California Judge Blocks Law Punishing Doctors for Disseminating “Misinformation”
Reuters: A U.S. judge has blocked a California law that sought to penalize doctors who spread “misinformation or disinformation” about COVID-19 while he considers a pair lawsuits challenging it on free speech grounds. Senior U.S. District Judge William Shubb in Sacramento ruled on Wednesday that Assembly Bill 2098, which was signed last October by California Governor Gavin Newsom was too vague for doctors to know what kind of statements might put them at risk of being penalized.”COVID-19 is a quickly evolving area of science that in many aspects eludes consensus,” he wrote (Reuters). Aaron Keriaty: The ruling bodes well for our case: it indicates that our arguments that this law is unconstitutional have strong pre-trial facial plausibility (Twitter).

Jane Fonda Believes the Climate Crisis is Exacerbated by Racism
Fox News: Actress Jane Fonda, 85, blamed the “climate crisis” on racism during an interview on “The Kelly Clarkson Show.” Clarkson asked Fonda how she branched out to other areas of activism, to which the actress suggested it wasn’t much of a stretch. “Well, you know, you can take anything – sexism, racism, misogyny, homophobia, whatever, the war,” the actress said. “And if you really get into it, and study it and learn about it and the history of it and everything’s connected. There’d be no climate crisis if it wasn’t for racism” (Fox News).

Denmark to Boost Armed Forces by Drafting Women
Bloomberg: Denmark plans compulsory military conscription for women, as the Nordic country seeks to significantly boost the size of its armed forces. The move can help Denmark meet its requirements under its NATO membership but it would also be “beneficial” for the military if it had more women employed, Jakob Ellemann-Jensen, the country’s defense minister and deputy prime minister, said (Bloomberg). Daily Caller: Women currently comprise less than 10% of Denmark’s armed forces. Norway became the first NATO member to begin drafting women in 2015. Denmark announced last month it will increase defense spending by $660 million to hit the NATO benchmark of 2% of GDP going toward the country’s military budget (Daily Caller).

Democrats Unhappy with Ron DeSantis Rejecting AP African American Studies for Students
ABC: Several Florida students say they plan to sue the state and Gov. Ron DeSantis over the state’s rejection of the Advanced Placement African American studies course in state schools. The lawsuit is backed by civil rights attorney Crump and attorney Craig Whisenhunt, who will be representing three AP honors high school students (ABC). National Review: In an unprecedented development filled with implications for American education, Illinois governor J. B. Pritzker is now demanding that “the role played by Black queer Americans” be included in the College Board’s soon-to-be-revised AP African-American Studies (APAAS) course (National Review). Education Commissioner Manny Diaz: Despite the lies from the Biden White House, Florida rejected an AP course filled with Critical Race Theory and other obvious violations of Florida law. We proudly require the teaching of African American history. We do not accept woke indoctrination masquerading as education (Twitter).
