Tell the SBOE to Help Governor Abbott and Texas Legislature with School Choice

Last week we asked you to let the State Board of Education know that you want the legislative priority of school choice to be put on the agenda for reconsideration. You asked and the SBOE listened. The legislative priorities will be brought back up for discussion on the agenda for the Tuesday, January 31 meeting.

But the fight is not over. We need enough votes from members to agree to not proceed forward with the legislative priority to oppose school choice. The specific legislative priority was to oppose “any attempts to divert public dollars away from public schools.” At the very least, we are asking the SBOE members to leave that legislative priority that they adopted last November off of their legislative priority list so they can work with the legislature, the governor, and the lieutenant governor to promote school choice.

Please contact your SBOE member and let them know that you do not want them to proceed forward with the legislative priority against school choice and thank them for putting the topic back on the agenda for the January meeting.
