Hi friends,

This morning, the 14 youth plaintiffs in Navahine F. v. Hawai‘i Department of Transportation attended the first court hearing in their constitutional climate case. Appearing before the Honorable Judge Jeffrey P. Crabtree at the Environmental Court of First Circuit in Honolulu, attorneys for the youth from Our Children’s Trust and local counsel from Earthjustice’s Mid-Pacific Office argued that the state’s motion to dismiss the case should be denied by the court.

We now await a ruling from Judge Crabtree. Stay tuned and we will share news of this court decision as soon as we receive it!

Standing in Solidarity with Youth Plaintiffs
Over 100 supporters of the youth plaintiffs packed the courtroom and a nearby overflow room, while nearly 150 more watched the proceedings online via Zoom. Supporters in Honolulu then joined the youth plaintiffs at a post-hearing press conference on the courthouse plaza, gathering to sing songs and hear the attorneys and young plaintiffs speak.
