John, we’re seeing some major changes in voting rights access across the nation, and right here in Ohio, voting rights laws are now as strict as they can get.
Passing one of the nation's most restrictive voter ID laws, Ohio Governor Mike DeWine and the GOP-controlled state legislature have taken voting rights access leagues backward. This latest law limits acceptable forms of photo ID, shortens early voting and absentee voting, and even limits who can get curbside assistance voting to those “physically unable” to enter the building.
More than 1 million Ohioans with expired or suspended licenses will lose their access to the ballot, forcing them to jump through bureaucratic hoops to vote. Since their county-issued veteran IDs are no longer acceptable, thousands of veterans will be left disenfranchised. This attack on voting access just isn’t right, John.
Despite no instances of voter impersonation and Ohio Republican Secretary of State’s assessment that the 2020 election was safe and secure with “a 99.98% accuracy rate,” Ohio Republicans are set on restricting our voting rights ahead of the next presidential election.
