# [#]When I first ran for King County Council in 2003, I was very much the underdog. I ran against a 20-year incumbent who was the Chair of the Council and a fellow Democrat.
It was, to put it mildly, an uphill battle taking on the political establishment. As the son of a public school teacher and a Boeing employee, I didn’t have any political connections, big endorsements, or personal money. Instead, I got out in my community and knocked on 22,000 doors. With the help of my family, friends, and dozens of grassroots volunteers — we pulled off an upset.
I’m excited to share my latest campaign video, which contains some great memories — including the very first door I knocked on in 2003 and tries to capture what I think the people want from their Attorney General. I hope you’ll take a look!

The photo above is of me and my daughter Katie at the Election Night Party for Attorney General in 2012. You might notice Katie is holding a wand. On the car ride to the event, my wife Colleen and I were discussing how the race might turn out. From the backseat, Katie said, “Don’t worry, Daddy. I will wave my magic wand and you’ll get lots and lots of votes!” Good news — she was right.
