Here are some updates from today.
Today, the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals granted the U.S. Department of Justice’s request to participate in oral argument over a Texas law that requires people who register to vote electronically to also submit a pen-on-paper version of their signature (known as a wet signature). Oral argument is scheduled for March 6. [link removed]
The Arizona Supreme Court denied — for the second time — Kari Lake’s request for the court to take over review of her lawsuit contesting her loss in the Arizona governor's race. Her case is currently ongoing before the Arizona Court of Appeals, the state’s mid-level court. [link removed]
Here’s what to expect coming up.
An important lawsuit is now before the U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit. Back in November, a federal judge ruled that former President Donald Trump is not immune from a lawsuit from the NAACP Legal Defense Fund alleging that he, his campaign and the Republican National Committee engaged in efforts to disenfranchise Black voters during the 2020 election. Trump appealed that “absolute immunity” decision to the D.C. Circuit and we are currently waiting for his opening brief. [link removed]
