Friends,

You’re getting a lot of emails from us this week. But a lot is happening…and some big news dropped today!

SOUTH DAKOTA

Yesterday, we wrote to you about how South Dakota Kristi Noem was pushing a $200 million “economic development” bill over the objections of the SD Freedom Caucus.

Today, on the front of the Fox News website, comes a story ([link removed]) about how Noem is unconstitutionally sponsoring bills in the South Dakota legislature. That’s right. The Governor, head of the Executive Branch, is sponsoring bills as if she’s in the legislature.

From the Fox article ([link removed]) :

"The governor and the executive agencies seem to conveniently forget we have three branches of government, not one," said [South Dakota Freedom Caucus member Tina] Mulally, who argued against the bills in a committee hearing. "It’s the difference between a Republic and a despotism."

The SD Freedom Caucus has promised to block all 84 of her bills unless she removes her name as sponsor.

Meanwhile, a South Dakota House committee is doing real harm to America’s individual freedoms.

The South Dakota House State Affairs Committee voted 12-0 that January 6 detainees should not be treated humanely or fairly.

Later that day, this same committee heard a resolution that would amend the state’s constitution, affirming the right of a person to reject any vaccines. They killed the measure, 11-1.

This sort of hostility to freedom, in a deep red state, is a very real thing. It’s happening across the country. The South Dakota Freedom Caucus has no members on this committee, but rightfully is trying to expose this routine abuse of liberty.

Writing in The Federalist, James Silberman explains ([link removed]) how the House Freedom Caucus stood strong against Kevin McCarthy in the Speaker’s race and how that sort of courage needs to spread across the states. Quoting two state freedom caucus members, he writes:

[Idaho Freedom Caucus member Scott] Herndon explained that the success of the 20 holdouts should inspire grassroots conservative momentum: “I do expect Freedom Caucus growth around the country, and as the state-level Freedom Caucus Network expands, we’re going to see that it can be effective as a balance against the establishment.” On Jan. 3, as the House battle was raging, a coalition of 14 Montana state legislators announced the formation of the Montana Freedom Caucus. Commenting on the new group, Montana State Sen.Theresa Manzella posted, “Did you watch the House Freedom Caucus block the election of the left-leaning speaker today? Small in number, but strong and strategic. We hope to be as effective at the state level!”

Help us be as effective as the House Freedom Caucus! Please donate to the State Freedom Caucus Network TODAY.
