Governor Whitmer Header
Dear Friend,?
Last night, I delivered my State of the State address, proposing solutions that will lower costs, grow our economy, and make a real difference in people?s lives.??
Right now, Michiganders are feeling the pinch of inflation and struggling to pay the bills and put food on the table. My proposals will put money back in their pockets, continue bringing supply chains home, and expand educational opportunities for Michiganders. Together we can keep Michigan moving forward.
I am honored to serve as your Governor. Let?s roll up our sleeves and build a brighter future together.
Sincerely,
Governor Whitmer
Gretchen Whitmer

Lowering MI Costs
Between gas, groceries, and other necessities, Michiganders are feeling the pinch right now. Last night, I proposed Lowering MI Costs, a 3-part plan to keep money in Michiganders? pockets so they can pay the bills and put food on the table. My plan proposes rolling back the retirement tax, boosting the Working Families Tax Credit, and delivering free pre-K for all. Together, we can save Michiganders thousands of dollars a year. For our seniors, families, and kids, let?s get this done.

Make it in Michigan
We must make sure young people choose Michigan to build their future. We can do this in a few ways, including building on our economic development efforts to bring jobs home, while also investing in our communities, making them more attractive places to live and work. Let?s focus on creating good-paying jobs, competing with everyone to lead the future of advanced manufacturing, and ensuring young people choose Michigan.

MI Kids Back on Track
In-class instruction is not enough. ?The data is clear?our students need additional support. MI Kids Back on Track is a plan to expand tutoring, after school programs, and extra instructional time in the classroom for every student in Michigan. I will work with anyone to get our kids the support they need.

Public Safety and Gun Violence Prevention
We must do more to reduce crime and gun violence. Last night, I proposed another comprehensive investment in law enforcement including better training, oversight, and mental health resources. I also urged passage of commonsense reforms like universal background checks, safe storage laws, and extreme protection orders.

Protecting Fundamental Freedoms
Let?s build on our reputation as a welcoming beacon of opportunity by repealing our extreme 1931 abortion ban and other outdated laws that shame or forbid people from seeking the reproductive healthcare they need for themselves. Let?s also amend the Elliott-Larsen Civil Rights Act to strengthen legal protections for the LGBTQ+ community and make clear that you can?t be fired or evicted for who you are. Michigan?s message to anyone living in a state that controls their body or denies who they are is simple: we will always have a place for you. These proposals are also just good economics?bigotry is bad for business.
