John, Our media is outright FAILING US in the current political moment. Let me explain how. Let's start with Charles McGonigal, senior FBI official in charge of investigating Trump's relationship--his collusion with--Russia. A week before the election in 2016, a piece appeared in the NY Times that boggles the mind. It declared the FBI saw no connection between Trump & Russia. Insane at the time, but it's only grown more so as both the Senate Intelligence Committee--led by GOP former Sen. Richard Burr--and The Mueller Report found numerous instances of the Russians trying to help Trump. From a meeting in Trump Tower attended by one of Putin's minions and Donny Trump Jr., ostensibly to get dirty on Hillary, to Paul Manafort's sharing polling with a Putinite, even if Mueller didn't find the meetings criminal (remember, Mueller was stonewalled by Trump et al), it all easily fit the definition of "collusion." Here's where McGonigal comes in. He was literally arrested this week for being bribed by a sanctioned Russian oligarch with whom Manafort worked closely, Oleg Derispaska. Deripaska magically had some of his sanctions removed in 2019 by 42 Senate Republicans, then turned around and offered $200 million for an aluminum plant in...Kentucky. Mitch McConnell's home state! The other Senator in Kentucky? Rand Paul, whom the late John McCain accused of working for the Kremlin on the Senate Floor. To summarize, the guy in charge of investigating Trump's ties to Putin was being bribed by a Putinite, the same one close to the convicted Manafort, and who seemingly offered Rand Paul/Mitch McConnell a $200MM bribe in the form of an aluminum plant in their state. HOW IS THE MEDIA NOT COVERING THIS AS MUCH AS THEIR RIDICULOUS STORY ABOUT HILLARY'S EMAILS?? I went on Stephanie Miller's show to discuss this and other things. A second story: The idiocy surrounding the Republican fabricated urban myth kitty litters are being placed in classrooms for students to use. Like so much from the Right it's just a flat out lie, but the media won't consistently call them on this, and recently even right-wing former football coach Tony Dungy repeated it. It's insane. It's inane. It puts teachers at risk, not long after a teacher was recently shot by a six year old--SIX--in Newport News, Virginia. The sad thing? While there aren't kitty litters, there are pales in some classrooms in case a mass shooting occurs and students need to go to the bathroom while in lockdown. I feel sick even typing that last sentence. Again, the media may do a one-off on these stories, never making clear they're lies and making those telling the lies pay any price. BUT WE WON'T.
