John, we love to see bold Democratic women making history. Today, we’re celebrating Emerge Michigan alum Rep. Kyra Harris Bolden and her official appointment to the Michigan Supreme Court! 

Bolden is the youngest member on the bench, and she is the FIRST Black woman to rise to this office, but she will not be the last. As a woman of the New American Majority, working mom, community-minded lawmaker, and champion for survivors of sexual assault, Bolden’s perspectives are a welcome and necessary addition to the court. 

Her voice will help ensure real representation and fairness for all communities the court must serve. And her appointment maintains Democrats’ critical 4-3 majority as the fight for our fundamental rights continues at the state level. 

We’re thrilled to see our Emerge alums continue the fight to transform politics and deliver for all our communities – and we have big plans to train more jurists like Bolden to run and win with our brand-new Gavel In judicial program, launching this weekend! We created Gavel In to empower jurists to run successful political campaigns to serve in judgeships. The program will cover common campaign skills and tactics and is also developed to meet the unique needs of individuals running for judicial roles.
