It’s a new year and it’s the perfect time for us to take stock of our wins in 2022 and plan for the impact we want to make in 2023. 

From celebrating our 15th anniversary to winning a historic hearing on the National Domestic Worker Bill of Rights, to organizing for unprecedented voter turnout in Georgia, and everything in between, you used your voice and resources in 2022 to uplift the needs of domestic workers. And you helped us get closer to the care society we all want and deserve. 

We wouldn’t have been able to accomplish any of this without you, our donors and action-takers.

This year, we’re laser-focused on passing a federal Domestic Workers Bill of Rights, continuing the fight for domestic worker rights and protections in places like New Jersey, ensuring we all have access to the care we need, and building power for women of color.  To be successful and continue to build this movement, we need to hear from you.

We join labor and domestic worker advocates across the world in mourning the loss of Myrtle Witbooi, a long-time leader in the domestic worker and labor movement. Myrtle dedicated 52 years toward fighting against apartheid and for democracy and domestic workers’ rights. Read More

January is National Slavery & Human Trafficking Prevention Month, a time to reflect on the painful roots of domestic work in slavery. It is also a time to honor the freedom fighters from the past and today who have fought to end slavery and trafficking of domestic workers and all other workers, like Harriet Tubman.

Harriet Tubman was an enslaved domestic worker who escaped slavery. She led hundreds of enslaved African Americans to freedom along a route called the Underground Railroad. She skillfully navigated landscapes at night and built relationships with supporters from Maryland to Canada who hid fugitive slaves. During the Civil War (1861-1865), she led 150 African American soldiers to free over 700 slaves. It was mass-based Black militancy like this that ended the system of legal slavery in the US.
