Israel Intercepts Rockets Launched from Gaza Strip
On Wednesday, Palestinian terrorists in Gaza fired rockets toward Israeli citizens. Israel's Iron Dome intercepted 2 rockets headed toward populated areas. Last month, Congress appropriated $500 million for joint missile defense programs like Iron Dome. This funding saves lives. The IDF believes the rockets were fired by a group within Palestinian Islamic Jihad, the terrorist group in Gaza that is funded and armed by Iran. The Iranian regime funnels $140 million to terrorist groups in Gaza each year.

Iran Says it Unintentionally Shot Down Ukrainian Airliner
Iran’s military announced early Saturday that it had accidentally shot down a Ukrainian passenger jet, blaming human error because of what it called the plane’s sharp, unexpected turn toward a sensitive military base. After days of tension since the jet crashed near Tehran on Wednesday, the same day that Iranian missiles struck American bases in Iraq, the admission was a stunning reversal. Iran initially maintained that mechanical issues had brought the Boeing airliner down, killing all 176 people on board. International pressure had been building on Iran to take responsibility. American and allied intelligence assessments had already concluded that Iranian missiles brought down the plane most likely by accident, amid heightened tensions between the United States and Iran.

Videos Appear to Show Iranian Police Using Live Fire Against Protestors
Iranian police and security forces fired both live ammunition and tear gas to disperse demonstrators protesting the Islamic Republic following its admission that it shot down a Ukrainian jetliner, online videos purported to show Monday. There was no immediate report in the Iranian state-run media on the incident near Freedom Square in Tehran on Sunday night after a call went up for protests there. Videos sent to the New York-based Center for Human Rights in Iran that were later verified by the Associated Press show a crowd of demonstrators fleeing as a tear gas canister landed among them. Videos show people coughing while trying to escape the fumes. Another video shows a woman being carried away after she was shot in the leg.

Iran Recession to Deepen, Reserves to Fall to $73 Billion by March
The Iranian regime is under pressure economically, diplomatically, and from its citizens. Hit by sanctions curbing oil sales, Iran’s economy is set to fall deeper into recession this fiscal year and foreign reserves could drop to $73 billion by March, a loss of almost $40 billion in two years, the Institute of International Finance said. The economy shrank by 4.6% in the 2018-2019 fiscal year and the contraction is expected to deepen to 7.2% in the current fiscal year, the IIF, a finance industry body, said this week. Last week, the United States sanctioned 17 Iranian metal producers and mining companies in response to Iran’s attack on U.S. troops in Iraq.

U.S. Army to Purchase Israeli-made Spike Missiles
The U.S. Army has chosen the Israeli-made long-range Spike precision missile to use on attack helicopters as an interim solution for greater standoff capabilities. According to Defense News, an Army Requirements Oversights Council authorized the decision “ahead of a bigger decision” regarding acquiring long-range precision munitions for its air fleets. While Apache helicopters can currently take out targets like enemy tanks, light bunkers and personnel from 7 miles away with the Hellfire Anti-Tank Guided Missile, the U.S. Army wants a missile capable of striking from a longer distance. Developed and produced by Rafael Advanced Defense Systems, the Spike is a fifth-generation precise electro-optical missile with a range of more than double the Hellfire’s. The Spike is in use by 31 armies
and navies around the world on a variety of land and sea system platforms. More than 5,500 Spike missiles have already been fired around the world, both in training and in combat.
