John,
Here’s the Republican talking point that’s circulating on the Hill: No one is talking about cutting Social Security and Medicare. When we ask Republicans in the halls of Congress to do their job and raise the debt ceiling without hostage-taking, that’s what they tell us.
Never mind that The Washington Post reported that some Republicans are pushing to raise the retirement age to seventy.1
Never mind that Medicare-fraudster-turned-Senator2 Rick Scott compared Social Security and Medicare to “alcoholism.”3
Never mind that before the election, both Speaker Kevin McCarthy4 and Senator John Thune5 (Mitch McConnell’s #2 in the Senate) explicitly called for holding the debt ceiling hostage to demand cuts to Social Security and Medicare.
Never mind Rep. Rick Allen saying his constituents want to work ‘til they die.6
Still―conventional wisdom among many reporters covering Capitol Hill is shifting to align with the Republican talking points. This is EXTREMELY dangerous.
Our campaign is working. Republicans are trying to hide their real agenda―but we are shining a spotlight and holding them accountable. Donate today!
The rules changes that MAGA extremist members of the House of Representatives secured when they voted for Speaker McCarthy give veto power to the anti-Social Security Freedom Caucus over anything that comes to the floor. Social Security and Medicare are definitely still in danger.
We are winning the fight to protect Social Security and Medicare. We have to keep pushing all the way to victory and demand Republicans keep their hands off Social Security and Medicare! Donate today!
