John, it’s 2023 and women, people of color, and Muslims are still underrepresented in state legislatures.
Women make up only 32.7% of state legislature seats and less than 700 of them are women of color!
And even though Muslim Americans made historic gains in 2022, securing 38 seats in state legislatures across the country – we still lack widespread representation.
This lack of progress means that marginalized communities are not getting the representation they deserve or having their concerns addressed.
To make matters worse, young, progressive candidates of color are at a huge disadvantage – often being discredited or called “unelectable” because of their identities.
I faced the same barriers running as a young, Muslim woman whose identity and age were deemed insufficient, all while dealing with hateful attacks because of my religion.
John, we can’t let these barriers deter us from making real change – but we need your help to get on a path towards a truly representative democracy.
It’s time for us to make our own progress the only way we know how: by getting behind strong progressive leaders in our communities fighting to represent the underrepresented, the underestimated, and the underinvested in.
We have already made historic strides in electing a record number of women, people of color, and Muslims to state legislatures, but 32.7% is not enough representation! If we rally together, we can create the progress we desperately need, we just need to start right now.
Will you chip in $27 and stand with me as we uplift leaders of underrepresented communities and strive for progress for all? >>
Your support means everything,
