The State Board of Education (SBOE) is set to reconsider its
Legislative Priorities for the 88th session on Tuesday, January
31st. The current set of priorities was chosen by the previous
board, and there are four items on the list that we need to
eliminate!

Three items to eliminate that overregulate private and charter
schools, stifling innovation and competition:

SBOE veto authority over charter school expansions
Power to regulate charter schools, forcing them to follow the
same rules as ISDs
Forcing SBOE-chosen textbooks into all schools, both public and
private

And, most importantly, one item to eliminate that is directly in
conflict with our school choice legislative priority:

Reject any form of educational freedom, including vouchers, an
education savings account, taxpayer savings grants, or any other
mechanism that would have the effect of reducing funding to
public schools

We ask ALL Texas Republicans to tell the board to reconsider
their priorities. We urge all our members-all Texans who want to
fight for parents' rights and educational freedom-to call your
SBOE member and ask them to replace these priorities with items
that will promote educational freedom.

The current "educational" priorities are tools for the Radical
Left's agenda. Far from promoting the education of young Texans,
these priorities deny parents a right to have a say in their
child's education by limiting educational choice and forcing all
schools, both public and private, to use the same curriculum.

One of the eight Republican Party of Texas legislative priorities
is to fight for parental rights and educational freedom. The
State Board of Education has 10 Republicans with only 5
Democrats-they have no excuse not to uphold conservative
priorities following the will of their voters.

Parents must be the primary decision-makers for their children in
all matters. This authority includes the choice of schooling,
whether public or private. Join Texas Republicans in asking the
SBOE to get their priorities straight.
