In a moment, I'm going to ask you to help us hit our first end-of-month fundraising goal of the year. But first, I want to talk about how the Ohio Republicans are starting the year:
1. The corruption trial of former Speaker Larry Householder and former Chair Matt Borges just began. Federal prosecutors allege that top Ohio Republicans accepted $60 million in bribes from the power company FirstEnergy, in exchange for a $1.4 billion bailout. But the corruption runs deeper, and Republicans like Dave Yost, Matt Dolan, Frank LaRose, and Mike Carey all have questionable ties to FirstEnergy and the scandal.
2. The Ohio GOP passed legislation to disenfranchise as many Ohio voters as possible. In the first week of 2023, Governor DeWine signed one of the most dangerous anti-voter bills in the country — creating unnecessary barriers at the voting booth and restricting early and absentee voting.
3. Republicans are ready to do whatever it takes to flip Senator Sherrod Brown's seat red. Analysts are already calling the race a "toss-up." Republican State Senator and multi-millionaire Matt Dolan is the first to announce that he's running against Sherrod, and we can expect him to use his fortune to self-fund and attack Sherrod.
