President Biden Drains U.S. Strategic Petroleum Reserve

Dear Texans,

For over two years, President Biden has waged war on American energy and has refused to invest in oil and gas production on U.S. soil. From canceling critical pipelines to endless permitting delays, taxpayers have seen energy prices skyrocket due to these anti-energy policies. In order to bail out the Administration's radical green new deal agenda, President Biden has depleted our Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR). In two short years, the Administration has sold off more than 200 million barrels, which is nearly 40% of the national stockpile and more than all of the U.S. Presidents in history combined. As a result, the SPR is now at its lowest level since 1984. Crude from the SPR is meant for times of emergency, not as a solution to Biden's self-inflicted economic disasters and bad policy decisions.

This week, House Republicans will work to restore America's depleted Strategic Petroleum Reserves (SPR) and lower energy costs for hardworking American families by passing the Strategic Production Response Act (SPRA). This bill will increase the lands available for oil and gas production and require the Department of Energy to stop their abuse of the SPR by limiting the Administration's authority in releasing oil from the strategic petroleum reserve.

Energy security is national security, and the SPRA is the first step in strengthening our Nation's energy independence and ensuring our national security is not at risk.
