Heartbreaking. Cruel. Treasonous.

Just a few descriptions of Republican policy and cruelty that enables mass gun death in America. Firearms have now surpassed cars as the leading cause of death for our children. It is at the same time sickening and horrifying.

We’ve mourned five gun massacres in California, Iowa and Washington State in recent days, leaving 24 dead and families destroyed. States like California and Washington have done the right thing, passing strict laws, and they've greatly lowered their gun violence rates. But they can't stop guns from crossing state lines. We NEED a national solution.

Fred Guttenberg--a friend who lost his daughter in the Parkland massacre--put it perfectly during a recent appearance on Nicole Wallace's MSNBC show when discussing Republicans: "They talk right to life. My daughter had a right to life, people killed this week had a right to life. They talk freedom? You don't have freedom from the grave. Ok. My daughter doesn't have freedom from the grave."

None of us have this freedom. I knew Fred's sister before Fred's daughter was murdered. We will all know survivors of gun violence or become them ourselves if we don't stop this plague. NOW.

"Giffords," founded/run by former Rep. Gabby Giffords (shot through the head during a town hall in Tucson) and her husband, recently re-elected Sen. Mark Kelly, fights every day to end the sickening scourge of gun violence. We know how to do it. They know how to do it. Every other high income democracy has done it.
