Dear John,

January is a time to begin anew. It’s a season of resolutions, and a moment to imagine how things could be, to picture the future we can create, and to dream of how far we can go.

2023 marks the Ms. Foundation’s 50th anniversary and as we celebrate the many milestones of the last five decades, we’re also reflecting on how to create the future we deserve. Throughout the year, we’ll be honoring the Foundation’s remarkable legacy and mobilizing support for the next 50 years to achieve gender and racial equity. We’ve come a long way, but won’t stop until we achieve a true democracy — one where everyone is able to thrive.

We remain incredibly full of resolve and hope. This year holds so much potential and possibility, and we’re excited to achieve our dreams alongside you, because creating the future we deserve will take all of us. Stay tuned!

In solidarity,

Ruth McFarlane
Chief Advancement Officer

Ms. in the News

President & CEO Teresa C. Younger penned an op-ed for Philanthropy News Digest that reflects on what would’ve been fifty years of Roe v. Wade and urges the philanthropic sector to do more to achieve reproductive justice.

“Roe is gone, but there is momentum and possibility for progress. To achieve something better, philanthropy must be as radical and innovative as the people it serves.”

Grantee Spotlight: Lavender Phoenix

Lavender Phoenix, based out of the Bay Area, is building queer and transgender Asian and Pacific Islander power.

When asked what funders can do to better support their work, Director Yuan Wang said: “Our communities are facing disproportionate violence at the hands of the police, the medical industrial complex, and the immigration system, yet receive a fraction of funding support. We need progressive funders to help our groups grow, and lead movements for racial, gender, and economic justice from the frontlines.” Read our latest grantee spotlight now!
