The Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation is pleased to announce that Katie Fogleman will join the staff of the Foundation as the director of communications starting March 20, 2023.

In this role, Katie will lead the Foundation in developing and implementing strategic communication plans for ZSR’s strategies, programs and initiatives. She will work to build awareness of ZSR and its mission, core values, grantmaking and programs, furthering the role of ZSR as a leader on issues of importance across the state.

“Katie’s communications experience, coupled with her background knowledge of the Foundation and local community, will ensure she has a successful transition into this role,” said Maurice “Mo” Green, executive director of the Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation. “Katie will be an excellent leader of our communication efforts, sharing how we are improving the quality of life for all North Carolinians.”

Katie comes to the Foundation from her role as Vice President and Deputy Director of Digital Strategy with Burness, a global team of communications experts supporting nonprofits and the people they serve. She previously worked with Teach for America as a Spanish Teacher and a Corps Member Advisor.

Katie has a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Studies and History from Duke University. In a full circle moment, Katie, who grew up in Winston-Salem, served as an intern with the Foundation when she was a college student.

“As a Winston-Salem native and former Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation intern, I am thrilled to be joining the foundation,” Katie said. “ZSR has supported some of the most important initiatives in our state, helping launch dozens of organizations and efforts that are now integral to the lives of North Carolinians. I am excited to help tell the story of this work and highlight the foundation’s incredible grantee partners that work tirelessly to make life better for everyone in our state.”

The Foundation posted the director of communications position in September 2022, which is based in Winston-Salem, NC. It received 35 applications for the position.
