Dear John,
This year's Human Freedom Index has been released, and it's not good news for Canada.
Compiled by Canada’s Fraser Institute and the U.S.-based Cato Institute, this year's study finds that for the first time since 2012, Canada does not rank among the top 10 freest countries worldwide.
The index measures personal freedom — the rule of law, safety and security, identity and relationships, freedom of movement, speech, assembly and religion — as well as economic freedom: the ability of individuals to make their own economic decisions.
This year, Canada ranks as the 13th freest country in the world, down from 6th in last year’s ranking.
See where other countries placed here, and be sure to share this news with your friends and colleagues.
Sincerely,
Niels Veldhuis
President
The Fraser Institute
