It’s a fair question!
I want to take a moment to clear something up, John.
Many of you have been emailing me recently to ask: If you won your election, then why are you still asking me to donate to your campaign?
It’s a fair question! So I wanted to take a second to answer: First off, YES – we won in November! And yes, I am just about to wrap up my first month representing Vermont in Congress.
But remember all of the work it took to get here? We faced an extremely competitive and contested primary. At many points, we were outraised, outspent, and down in the polls. Next cycle, it’s likely that we could face another competitive primary, and anti-LGBTQ interest groups could come out of the woodwork to spend against us. We cannot take a single thing for granted – and we cannot let our campaign operation lapse.
Grassroots contributions from people like you are the reason why a candidate like me – a teacher, lesbian, and mom from a working-class background – can get elected to Congress. And in this next cycle, your support will help me stay here. That’s why I ask you to give $5 and $10 to our campaign when it makes sense for you, but especially ahead of deadlines like the one we’re facing at the end of the month.
In the coming weeks I am going to be announcing some exciting projects in Vermont, continuing the work of changing political culture, bucking the status quo, and building an organization around courage, kindness (and being scrappy as hell!) So, each time we get a $5 donation, I want you to know that it is truly meaningful to me and my team. It is because of people like you that I am not beholden to corporate donors, and that we built a community of 15,000 people who believed that politics can be different. I am very proud of that, and I do not take your time or your hard-earned money for granted.
So if you can swing it, I would appreciate your support to help us hit our $10,000 January goal for the month with a contribution of $5 or more today. Please help us start the new year off strong ahead of our 1/31 deadline. [[link removed]]

Thank you for hearing me out, and for investing in our campaign operation as we build for the cycle ahead. Your support means the world to me.
