Democrats — and our nation — are strongest when we listen to the heartland's needs, ideas, and thoughts. That’s why we need leaders from the heartland who are ready to stand up and fight to deliver solutions for manufacturing, agriculture, unions, trade, and other critical economic issues.

We’re going to bring our supply chains home, make sure working families can put food on the table, and build back America stronger and better than before.

In Congress, Democrats represent a big tent, which continues to grow as we work together to move America forward. But right now, we have an opportunity to see more representation from heartland leaders. Last year, I showed this map on the House floor, which shows senior leadership or committee chairs' geographic representation:

We know that representation from the heartland is critical to our nation’s success, and the Heartland Caucus is going to proactively bring that representation to discussions, committees, and solutions.

There are significant rural areas in our heartland and their issues, perspectives, and priorities are different than California’s. There are also critical urban areas like Detroit, Chicago, and Cleveland with deep, rich industrial roots that are creating a new era of economic development around emerging industries. This country is a mosaic and we're making sure that people in the heartland know their perspective is heard and that we’re in Congress fighting for them.
