Friends,
When I joined the state Senate in 2014, I was filling someone’s unexpired term. That meant I was showing up in the middle of things, without the normal preparation, and I needed to catch up fast.
So one of the first things I did was walk over to Josh Stein’s office and make an appointment. He happened to be in his office, so he waved me in and took the meeting immediately.
Josh had been a state Senator for a few terms and was generally regarded as one of the bright lights of the institution, so I was hopeful he’d be open to giving me some pointers on how to be effective.
And he absolutely came through - not just in that meeting, but for the next two years as we served together.
The rest of the state got to see him through the media, but I got to see him up close. Then he was elected Attorney General - and then re-elected - and I had the chance to continue to work with him in that capacity.
So when I endorse him for Governor, it’s not because we share a party - it’s because this guy is genuinely impressive and he’s earned a great deal of respect from those who know him best.
The upcoming race for Governor will be one of the most high-profile races in the country in 2024. Josh will likely be facing our current Lieutenant Governor, Mark Robinson.
Lt. Gov. Robinson has made many disparaging comments about women [[link removed]] and the LGBTQ [[link removed]] community that should be disqualifying, but instead he’s a virtual lock to be his party’s nominee.
I’m supporting Josh at an early stage because this will be a crucial race that will shape our state’s future - as well our reputation nationally.
If you can, I’m asking you to join me in supporting Josh’s campaign here. [[link removed]]
Thanks, and my next update from D.C. (lots going on!) will be arriving in your inbox in the next few days.
Best,
Jeff
