Six years ago, President Trump signed his first executive order banning travelers from Muslim-majority countries, causing irreparable harm to countless Muslims around the world. Travelers were stranded at airports and families were torn apart, challenging this country's values and principles towards religious freedom. Through Trump’s bans, the basic tenets of our democracy were lost on those creating immigration policy.
From that day forth, Emgage Action dedicated itself to fighting this racist ban and all other forms of discrimination through voter mobilization and smart, principled advocacy. During Emgage’s Million Muslim Votes campaign in 2020, geared at mobilizing a historic number of Muslim American voters, then-presidential candidate Joe Biden promised to repeal the Muslim Ban as president. On his first day in office, he delivered this promise.
Our work, however, is not over.
Tomorrow, Emgage Action, the No Muslim Ban Ever Campaign, elected officials, and leading organizations will assemble with Congresswoman Judy Chu at the House Triangle in front of the Capitol Building to reflect on the harmful legacy of the Muslim Ban and moving forward by passing the NO BAN Act.
