Dear John,
This week would have marked the 50th anniversary of Roe v. Wade. But 50 years after Roe v. Wade was decided in a landmark Supreme Court case, Americans now lack the constitutional right to an abortion.
Sign the petition: On this important anniversary, President Biden CAN AND MUST use all his power to ensure access to abortion by declaring a public health and national emergency around abortion.
Since the GOP-packed Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, abortion is banned, unavailable, or extremely restricted in 18 states and being challenged in another six.1
For those of us outraged and heartbroken, we are not alone. Together, we can turn our grief and rage into fuel for the fight ahead. Millions of people across the country have felt the effects of this decision. Many more will feel it in times to come. Yes, it’s an exhausting and difficult fight—but we have shown that when we come together, we can make a difference for our collective future.
Let’s make the most of a moment like this 50th anniversary. Together, it’s time to call on President Biden to protect abortion—starting by declaring a public health and national emergency around abortion and by hiring federal abortion providers and dispatching them across the country.
Will you rise in solidarity with everyone who seeks abortions, especially in the many states that have banned and restricted their bodily autonomy and access to abortion?
This goes beyond the Supreme Court. The GOP’s all-out attacks on reproductive freedom, bans on trans athletes, and blocks to gender-affirming care are all about destroying bodily autonomy. They are fundamentally connected. Republicans have no intention of slowing down these attacks, so we have to flex our collective power and fight back together.
50 years ago, the Supreme Court decided that Americans have the constitutional right to an abortion. Now, in a time of great uncertainty, we’re asking that the president declare a public health and national emergency to protect this right for us all.
