In 2022, Outright International worked with GIZ, the German Agency for International Cooperation, to provide advice regarding the inclusion of LGBTIQ populations in G7 activities. The G7 is an informal forum of leaders from Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the UK, and the US – that meets annually to “exchange views on global political issues and agree on common positions and goals.” This report sets out commitments made by G7 nations regarding international development activities to improve the lives of LGBTIQ people. As 2022 drew to a close, transgender people were buoyed by the nearly simultaneous passage of new bills in Spain and in Scotland that introduced systems of self-declaration for legal gender recognition. While Spain seems to be headed into a favorable direction, the British government vetoed the Scottish gender identity law. Read more ([link removed]) about what's happening in Scotland and Spain.

In 2019, due to the widespread prevalence of conversion practices and their negative impact on LGBTQ people in Africa, Outright partnered with three organizations: The Initiative for Equal Rights (TIERS) in Nigeria, galck+ in Kenya and Access Chapter 2 in South Africa. Together, we embarked on a project to document and end conversion practices. Explore the latest ([link removed]) commentary on this issue from our Africa program team.

Since launching our Ukraine Fund in March 2022, Outright has provided more than $2.3 million to 39 organizations across Ukraine and in neighboring countries to support LGBTIQ people affected by the Russian invasion. Most recently, Outright's senior fellow for emergency research, J. Lester Feder, traveled to Ukraine to speak to LGBTIQ activists on the ground who are fighting to build an inclusive democracy.
